The Tussock Fire started on the afternoon of May 8, approximately 8 miles southwest of Crown King. The fire was mapped this morning (May 9) at 2,448 acres and has reached the Prescott National Forest boundary. Due to lack of moisture, hot, dry, windy conditions, and rugged terrain, a Type 1 Incident Management Team had been ordered to assist with incident management.

Visitors are being asked to avoid the area to allow residents to maneuver as needed and to allow firefighters and equipment to get into the fire area.

While the incident is visible from I-17, there are NO direct impacts or road closures on I-17 as a result of this fire.
