Welcome Home Veterans

The Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Committee is bringing the American Veterans Travelling Tribute (AVTT) & the Cost of Freedom Tribute to Camp Verde for its final tour in the Verde Valley March 28-April 2, 2023.  Arizona State Parks and Trails, the Yavapai Apache Nation and the Town of Camp Verde are hosting the Event.

In 2012, the US Senate officially declared March 29 as “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day.” The event is a gesture of acceptance, gratitude and honor to the members of our community who risked their lives and made the ultimate sacrifice to serve our country during the Vietnam War – this includes the veterans and their families.  This year is significant as it is the 50th anniversary of the withdrawal of combat troops. Vietnam Veterans will now have the chance to be truly Welcomed Home.

The Wall escort begins at Cliff Castle Casino parking lot at 10:30am March 28th; and will be set up on the Community Center Field (75 E. Hollamon St). It will remain open to the public 24/7 until 3pm April 2nd.  The tribute includes: flag raising and lowering ceremonies, 13 Folds of the American Flag demonstrations, Veterans informational booths, presentations, Vietnam Veteran pinning ceremonies, keynote speakers, music and a BBQ.  Volunteers will be available to locate loved ones listed on the Wall and chaplains/pastors, etc. will be on site to assist.

3/29 - A full color guard opens the festivities at 8am; and the Opening Ceremony begins at 1 pm.

3/30 – Kids Day – 9am-Noon – a chance to pay tribute to Veterans and learn about the war

3/31 – Native American Veteran Recognition Day – begins at 10am; sponsored by the Yavapai Apache Nation

4/1 - “Ride of Honor”; escorted motorcycle ride; 11:10 a.m. in Sedona at Elks Lodge, 110 Airport Road.

4/1-2 – History of the American Soldier Military Timeline – at Fort Verde State Historic Park

There is no charge for this event and no fee to go through Fort Verde State Historic Park 3/29-4/2/23. A list of activities is available at visitcampverde.com/events or check azstateparks.com/fort-verde for scheduled presentations.
