Dynamite!

On 2/12/2023 at approximately 11:36 am, Chino Valley Officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of E. Liana Drive regarding dynamite being found. The reporting party was cleaning out an old barn on the property when they located approximately 5 sticks of old dynamite. It is unknown how long the dynamite had been in the barn or who put it there.

When officers arrived, they secured the area and contacted the Flagstaff Police Department Bomb Squad to assist with the removal and destruction of the dynamite. Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) responded and staged in case they were needed. The bomb squad successfully removed the dynamite from the location and transported it to a safe location out Perkinsville Road, where it was detonated and destroyed.

There were no injuries reported and no other dynamite was located on the property. No arrests were made, as it appears the dynamite had been there, undetected, for several years.

The Chino Valley Police Department would like to thank the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) and Flagstaff Police Department Bomb Squad for their assistance.
