Two accidents took place in Chino Valley over St. Patrick's day weekend

Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Vehicle

On 03/17/2023 at approximately 5:44 am Chino Valley Police Department officers responded to the 1800 block of South S.R. 89 for a report of a pedestrian stuck by a vehicle.

Upon arrival officers discovered Linda Jeffries, age 73, of Chino Valley deceased in the roadway.

Through investigation it was determined Linda ran into the roadway for an unknown reason and was struck in the number two lane (furthest west lane) by a 1991 Honda Civic being driven by a 24-year-old Paulden resident. Speed nor impairment are considered a factor in this investigation. No charges are pending at this time.

The southbound lanes of S.R. 89 were closed from Road 2 South to Outer Loop Road from approximately 5:44 am until 11:00 am. We would like to thank the motoring public for their patience as we investigated this incident.

Chino Valley Police Department would like to thank Arizona Department of Public Safety, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, Arizona Department of Transportation, Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority Arizona Crisis Team and Tri-City Towing for their assistance.

Collision Involving Motorcycle Results in Serious Injuries

On 3/18/2023, at approximately 8:47 pm, Chino Valley Officers responded to the 3500 block of North SR 89 regarding a traffic collision involving a motorcycle and pickup truck.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the motorcyclist down on the side of the roadway. The motorcyclist, a 52-year-old male from Prescott Valley, was found to be suffering from serious injuries. The driver of the truck, a 22-year-old male from Paulden, was not injured as a result of the collision. Traffic on SR 89 was completely stopped for several minutes while a helicopter landed to transport the motorcyclist to a local hospital for treatment.

Although the cause of the crash is still currently under investigation, it appears that speed and/or intoxication was not a contributing factor. Preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcycle pulled into the roadway and failed to yield to the truck, which was travelling northbound in the 3500 block of SR 89. After the initial collision, the driver of the motorcycle was ejected and came to rest on the shoulder of the roadway. The motorcycle came to rest in the roadway and was struck by a Ford Fusion that was travelling behind the truck that was involved in the initial collision. The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed.

The Chino Valley Police Department would like to thank motorist for their understanding and patience while the roadway was closed. We also want to thank our partnering agencies for their assistance, including the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, LifeLine, Native Air, the Arizona Department of Transportation, and Tri-City Towing.
