Adults are the most important component in preventing drowning tragedies.

Big Idea

  • Children under 13 are required to wear a life vest at all times while boating or participating in lake activities
  • Adults need to be active, sober and distraction-free while supervising children
  • Designate a “Water Watcher”
  • Older children should always swim with a partner

The Lake Havasu City Fire Department reminds everyone that while boating or participating in lake activities, children under 13 are required to wear a properly fitted, U.S. Coast Guard-approved life vest at all times.

LHCFD says adults are the most important component in drowning prevention. Active, sober and distraction-free adult supervision of children in and around water is life-saving. Designate a ‘Water Watcher’ to ensure that there is always someone dedicated to watching the water and children. Make sure that small children or inexperienced swimmers are within arm’s reach, and wearing a life vest while in or near the water. Older children should swim with a partner every time.

Also, please note that if visiting the Arizona State Parks at Lake Havasu  masks are required when visiting ranger stations, restrooms, stores or historic buildings. Wear a mask when outside if social distancing cannot be maintained. To maintain social distancing and avoid over-crowding, the park may experience temporary day-use closures.
