City of Prescott Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Schedule

PRESCOTT, AZ (January 6, 2022) – In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 17, city offices and Prescott Public Library will be closed, and some services will be affected. Solid waste services including trash collection and the transfer station will be operating. Here are some details:

Schedule for City of Prescott Offices

The City of Prescott offices will be closed on Monday, January 17th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. City offices will reopen on Tuesday, January 18th, at 8 a.m.

Schedule for Prescott Public Library

Prescott Public Library will be closed on Monday, January 17th, reopening Tuesday, January 18th at 9 a.m.

Schedule for Solid Waste Division

The Solid Waste Division WILL BE collecting residential and commercial trash and recyclables on Monday, January 17, 2022. Please have your containers curbside on your regular scheduled pick-up day by 6 a.m. Commercial routes will also be serviced on their regular schedule.

The City of Prescott Transfer Station WILL BE open on Monday, January 17, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please remember to cover and contain all loads when transporting them to the Transfer Station located at 2800 Sundog Ranch Road.

Yavapai County Offices Closed for Civil Rights Day

Yavapai County offices will be closed on Monday January 17, 2022, in observance of Civil Rights Day. County offices will reopen on Tuesday (1/18/2022) with regular business hours.


Prescott NF Waives Fees in Honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day; Prescott NF Offices closed for Federal Holiday

Prescott, AZ – January 11, 2022 - All Prescott National Forest (PNF) offices will be closed on Monday, January 17, for the federal holiday in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Virtual business hours will resume on Tuesday, January 18.

Observed on the third Monday of January each year, Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service. The national day of service celebrates the civil rights leader’s life and legacy by encouraging all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. The Forest Service participates in fee-free days with other federal agencies to encourage Americans to visit their public lands. Fees will be waived at Prescott NF sites that normally charge a day-use fee on Monday, January 17. As part of this nationwide event fees will be waived at the following sites:

  • Lynx Lake Recreation Area: North Shore, South Shore and Lynx Creek Ruin
  • Granite Basin Recreation Area: Cayuse, Wekuvde, Boat Launch, Playa, and Metate
  • Thumb Butte Recreation Area
  • Alto Pit OHV Recreation Area: Day Use Site
  • Hayfield Draw OHV Recreation Area
  • Groom Creek Nature Trail

The remaining fee waiver dates for 2022 are President's Day on February 21, National Get Outdoors Day on June 11, National Public Lands Day on September 24, and Veterans Day on November 11.

Please join your neighbors at 10:00 am at the Prescott College Welcome Center for the march round the Courthouse Square followed at 11:00 by an indoor celebration at Prescott United Methodist Church, where there will be food, music, dancing, and inspirational speeches!
