Letters of Solicitation Sought for Yavapai Attorney General

Yavapai County Attorney Sheila Polk has notified the Board of Supervisors of her intent to retire on December 31, 2022.  County Attorney Polk’s public service spans forty years with the last twenty-two years serving as the elected Yavapai County Attorney.  The Board of Supervisors accepted the County Attorney’s resignation at their regular meeting on November 16, 2022.  

The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors is now soliciting Letters of Interest and Resumes for appointment to the position of Yavapai County Attorney effective January 1, 2023, to complete the remaining term of office, which ends on December 31, 2024.  Those qualified to serve as Yavapai County Attorney must at the time of appointment: be 18 years of age or older; a resident of Yavapai County; registered to vote in Yavapai County; and able to read and write the English language.  A qualified applicant must also be an attorney at law, licensed and in good standing in Arizona.  

In addition, by law the Board of Supervisors must appoint to the vacancy a person of the same political party as the person vacating the office. The serving Yavapai County Attorney was elected as a member of the Republican Party.

Letters of Interest and resumes must be received by the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors by 4:00 P.M., on Tuesday, November 29, 2022.  

The Board of Supervisors will consider the Letters of Interest and Resumes and may appoint a replacement for the Yavapai County Attorney at their regularly scheduled Board of Supervisors meeting at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, December 7, 2022.  For information about the position please contact the County Administrator Phil Bourdon or Clerk of the Board Kim Kapin at 928-771-3200.
