McGrane takes the helm at the County Attorney's Office

Dennis McGrane, the Chief Deputy in the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office, was sworn in today as Yavapai County Attorney by the Honorable Michael McGill of the Yavapai County Superior Court. McGrane will fill the remaining two years of the vacancy created with the retirement of longtime County Attorney Sheila Polk.

Polk, who has served as Yavapai County Attorney since being elected to the position in 2000, notified the supervisors on Nov. 3 that she will retire, effective Dec. 31, 2022.

McGrane has 27 years of experience as an Arizona prosecutor. He joined the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office in 1995 and, in 2001, was appointed by Polk as the Chief Deputy. In addition to helping to manage an office of more than 100 employees and a budget of approximately 9 million, Dennis became a Judge Advocate General in the Army National Guard in 2008. In 2021, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. Polk said, “Through hard work and many man hours, Dennis has successfully navigated both jobs, serving in our military with excellence and serving this county with excellence.”

McGrane stated: “Besides the birth of my two children and getting married 33 years ago to my wife, this is the proudest and happiest day of my life. After 27 years with the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office, the last 22 as Chief, I look forward to continuing my service to this community in a new and elevated role as County Attorney.”

Of the appointment, Polk said: “I have full confidence in his abilities and in his competency. And above all, I just tell you that this is a man of impeccable integrity, and it’s been such a privilege for me to have him serve 22 years in my administration. I wish him and everyone in the office the best of luck.”

McGrane said: “I want to thank Sheila Polk and the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors for their trust and confidence in me. I am honored to take the helm for a team that is second to none.”
