Let’s focus on making a difference this holiday season
This year has been especially difficult for many families living here in Yavapai County. The Covid-19 virus seems to color everything we do and can diminish the joy that we experience during this holiday season. That is why it is even more important, as the weather turns cold, and we find ourselves busy buying gifts and planning meals, to take a minute and reflect on the good times we had in 2020 and the joy we will share this Christmas with new friends and family from a distance.
We may not be able to gather in large groups, but we can still share and connect with those we love, in ways we never thought possible. Sharing our love and appreciation for those dear to us via phone call or video conference may be difficult, but the sacrifices we make now will show those that need the protection, just how much we love them. The elderly and those with health conditions need us to keep our distance physically but that does not mean we do not make an effort to spend some time with them. We should all take a minute and call a friend or family member and ask them how they are doing.
When you go out to the stores, do something kind for those around you, and wear a mask. You may question how much good a small cloth or paper mask is actually doing but even if it only provides a small amount of protection, we should all be willing to do whatever we can to protect those around us. Just like getting a flu shot, a mask may not be 100% effective in stopping the spread of Covid-19, but it is a small thing we can all do, along with washing our hands and staying 6 feet apart.
We all know the vaccine is coming but until enough people have received the shot to create widespread immunity, we need to do what we can to help protect those in our lives we come in contact with. Please wear a mask, wash your hands and stay a safe distance apart. Together we can make a difference this holiday season and that will be the greatest gift anyone of us gives or receives.
