It has been almost 34 years since Cathy Sposito’s body was found brutally murdered along a popular hiking area near Prescott and the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office needs the public’s help in catching her killer and bringing closure to her family.
On June 13, 1987, Cathy was murdered while hiking on the Thumb Butte Trail west of Prescott. At about 7 AM that morning, Cathy rode her mountain bike to the trailhead and began hiking up the path. A short time later, Cathy’s body was found. Other hikers heard her screams for help, but sadly no one could reach her in time.
“34 years is a long time and many people have moved on with their lives but our detectives and cold case investigators haven’t forgotten what happened to Cathy and they are actively working this case,” said Sheriff David Rhodes, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office. “We know someone has information on what happened to Cathy. We just hope they do the right thing and come forward.”
