Falcons are an important part of our ecosystem
On Wednesday, December 29, 2021, Prescott Valley Animal Control was able to assist in helping the smallest of the falcon family, a Kestrel, to receive rehabilitation at the Wild at Heart Raptor Rescue.
The Kestrel was found in Chino Valley and kept safe by a good Samaritan in Chino Valley. The Samaritan contacted Prescott Valley Animal Control who transported the falcon to a rally point at Sunset Point and I-17 where a volunteer with Wild at Heart was waiting. The bird was then transported to the main facility of Wild at Heart to receive care for its broken wing.
The American kestrel, also called the Sparrow Hawk, is the smallest and most common falcon in North America. It can fly up to 39 miles per hour.
