Flagstaff pedestrian hit and killed on SR 69 early Wednesday morning

On April 20, 2022, at approximately 4:47 a.m. Prescott Valley Police officers responded to a report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision just east of Fain Road on State Route 69. The collision resulted in the death of the pedestrian, identified as Stephen G. Fernandez, 64, a former Flagstaff resident who appears to have no local address. The vehicle driver operating a delivery truck was not injured.

This collision is still under investigation, but impairment does not appear to be a factor. Fernandez was walking across the darkened highway for unknown reasons and the crossing area was not near a marked crosswalk.  Next of kin have been notified.

Emergency crews required limitation of the roadway to only one westbound lane for approximately two hours while officers completed in the investigation and removed debris.

Prescott Valley Police Department can be contacted at (928) 772-9267 for non-emergencies, 911 for emergencies.   Yavapai County Silent witness is 1-800-932-3232. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!
