Snow hasn’t slowed us down on the farm!
The market is canceled this week due to snow. When you think about it, we really are lucky the we can operate a yearround farmers market with only a very occasional cancellation due to weather. While snow is not unusual for us, the small amount we do get usually melts in a day. This snow has been coming down over several days and has lasted all week. My kids are thrilled and think this is maybe the best play snow we have ever gotten. As the snow slowly melts and permiates the soil, we as farmers are thrilled too, after the very dry year we had in 2020, this moisture will go a long way.
But the snow hasn't stopped us from being productive. We spent the week cleaning and organizing tools and barns, working on planting spreadsheets and website upgrades, I'm even mid way through sorting and purging the overflowing filing cabinet if you can believe that. We are deep into researching our system for tomato grafting for a fun new project this year. And we are continue to plant seeds in the greenhouse daily, many of which will be available as plant starts for your gardens!
We look forward to seeing you all at the market next week.
with love from your farmers,
Shanti & the Whipstone Crew
Since we don’t get that much snow here, I never time of the snow pics.
Meet Ophelia, our orphan lamb, she spends a lot of time by the wood stove and following this boy around in the snow.
