Students will return to distance learning for the last two weeks of the semester.

CHINO VALLEY, AZ- The Chino Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) Governing Board followed the recommendation of Superintendent John Scholl and voted today to return to distance learning on all campuses beginning Monday December 7, 2020 until the end of the semester, December 17, 2020.

This will result in eight school days of distance learning. The plan is to return to in-person learning when class resumes on January 4, 2021. This allows students, staff, and parents to receive needed materials through the remainder of this week in preparation for Monday distance learning.

Yavapai County Community Health Services Director Leslie Horton joined the Board meeting via phone to deliver her recommendations.

“Schools have done an incredible job in mitigating the spread in the classrooms across the county,” said Horton, adding that more steps need to be taken to help protect the students and staff.

“I can definitely support any districts decision to move back to on-line schooling,” said Horton.  She added that she views this as a last resort and “the best place for the students is in the classroom.”

The CVUSD posts current case numbers on the districts web site, www.chinovalleyschools.com,  under the COVID-19 tab.

The Board and district administration will be evaluating the situation daily and updating the public of any potential changes to this status as soon as possible.
