If you violate animal cruelty laws, you can be found guilty of a class 5 felony

As we anxiously wait for Punxsutawney Phil’s future weather predictions on February 2, also known as Groundhog Day, our Animal Control Officers would like to remind pet owners to properly care for their furry friends by not leaving them out in the cold. The weather forecast this week is calling for some nights to be down in the teens. This temperature is too cold to be out in the elements. It is part of responsible pet ownership to provide a safe and secure place for your dogs.

Arizona Revised Statute 13-2910.A.14 states that a person commits animal cruelty by intentionally or knowingly subjecting a domestic animal to cruel mistreatment. A person who violates this section is guilty of a class 5 felony. In addition, it is also a violation of Prescott Valley Town Code 06-04-010. Animal Control Officers have a zero-tolerance policy for pet mistreatment.

Citizens are encouraged to report abusive pet owners by calling 928 772 5154 or by visiting the PV Animal Control website at Animal Control | Prescott Valley, AZ - Official Website (pvaz.net).  There is no excuse for pet abuse.

Prescott Valley Police Department can be contacted at (928) 772-9267 for non-emergencies, 911 for emergencies. You may also contact Yavapai Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232. As always, if you see something, say something.
