Firefighters Respond to Smoke Report north of Cherry and west of HWY 260

PRESCOTT, AZ, January 10, 2021 - Firefighters responded to a smoke report on Saturday, January 9, 2021 on the Verde Ranger District.  The 50-acre Goat Fire is burning west of HWY 260 and north of the community of Cherry at the end of Forest Road 360 (T14N, R3E, Sec 4).  The Goat Fire is burning chaparral and juniper in very steep and rugged terrain with no vehicle access.  Today firefighters are hiking into the fires locations to access and begin working to suppress as quickly and safely as possible.   

Smoke may be visible from Highway 260 and in the communities of Cottonwood and Cherry.  The fire poses no threat to life or property. 

The Goat Fire is human caused and under investigation.
