In 2021, the Prescott Valley Police Department saw an alarming 26% increase in crashes town wide, with 48% increase in crashes on Glassford Hill Road alone. Thanks to the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the PVPD Traffic Unit began a speed enforcement project on January 1, 2022. Several different resources were used: two Police Motorcycles, and two traffic speed trailers, one northbound and one southbound. The speed trailers advise drivers of the speed limit and flashes red and blue lights for those who are speeding. The police department uses both marked and unmarked cars. Directed speed enforcement and multi-agency traffic details were also conducted.
The project was successful when comparing the 26% increase in 2021 to the 5% decrease in 2022, despite the steady and significant population increase over that same period.
The citations issued on Glassford Hill Road since January 1, 2022, included 726 Speed, 70 Red Light, 14 Criminal Speed, and 97 Seat Belt violations. There were 1,631 total traffic stops.
The Prescott Valley Police Department reminds everyone that safety on the road is every driver’s responsibility. If you see erratic drivers, contact your local law enforcement agency.
