It’s a Great American Outdoors Act project

PRESCOTT, AZ, February 14, 2022 - Beginning mid-February 2022, crews will begin heavy trail maintenance on the paved sections of the Lynx Lake Trail #311 to maintain and restore the accessibility of this popular trail.  Maintenance activities will require closing portions of the trail throughout the project which is expected to take up to four months to complete with estimated project completion towards the end of September,  2022.

The Forest recognizes that this trail is popular for residents and visitors to the area, which is why work activities are only scheduled during the week.  Additionally, crews will work diligently to ensure that only the paved sections of trail being worked are closed from 8am to 5pm each day, allowing for full use outside of these times.  The unpaved east side of the lake will remain open throughout the project.  Please obey the posted closures as they are being implemented for public safety and to allow the crews to work most efficiently.  Updated temporary trail closure  information will be shared on Prescott NF Facebook and Twitter accounts.

The project is funded by the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA).  The act gave the USDA Forest Service new opportunities to deliver benefits to the American public through major investments in recreation infrastructure, public lands access, and land and water conservation. These investments will enable communities to Build Back Better by contributing to economic growth and job creation in rural America. GAOA provides permanent full funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) that will advance the Administration’s 30 x 30 conservation goals and establishes a new National Parks and Public Land Legacy Restoration Fund to address the deferred maintenance backlog for the Department of Agriculture and Department of the Interior in fiscal years 2021-2025.

The work is being completed in partnership with American Conservation Experience (ACE). ACE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing rewarding environmental service opportunities for youth, young adults, and emerging professionals of all backgrounds to explore and improve public lands while gaining practical professional experience. Crews from ACE's Southwest Division (out of Flagstaff, AZ) will assist in conducting trail maintenance and restoration in coordination with Forest Service staff.
