Extremely Hot Weather Brings Need for Rescues Featured

Unusually high weather surprises many

Big Idea

  • Temperatures are unusually high for this time of year
  • New records are being set throughout the area
  • Numerous rescues were required over the weekend
  • Be prepared - bring extra water, sunscreen and wear appropriate clothing

During much of the afternoon Saturday, YCSO deputies, search and rescue volunteers and fire/EMS personnel were stretched thin handling numerous rescues in the Beaver Creek area, specifically in an area known as 'The Crack.' Many rescues involved persons overheated, dehydrated and simply not prepared for the current environment. Some of those rescued were out of town visitors unaware that temperatures, usually cooler in these communities, were extremely high. These temperatures will remain very high today.

Please think twice before coming to these already overcrowded areas this week. We understand the desire to get out and enjoy some fresh air, but please keep this in mind as you make your plans.

Stay safe everyone.
